So I’m back in Mali!
Here’s the deal, Alternatives Canada and Radio Kayira thought that it would be nice for me to return to Mali to complete the projects that I have started. As well, two teams of Canadian interns have joined in the fun.
Team 1, also known as team Baobab, will be creating a rooftop garden at the radio, all the while learning about agriculture here in Mali and creating awareness on better eating habits within a Malian Diet.
Team 2, also know Team Radio, will be working at Radio Kayira to strengthen and enhance the communication and technology sector of the radio. They too will be on an awareness campaign of understanding the Malian culture and relating it to the fact that they are Rwandan refugees returning to Africa for the first time.
I myself have my hands full in trying to launch a Social Café that is intended to bring about a forum for open debates on hot political issues. For example: Monsanto is making a bid to move into the country and start disseminating its products. Few people know what GMO’s are really all about, the café is an environment to discuss the issue and be better informed on the choice.<
As well, my work in the radio station is going full throttle. Since I was last at Kayira almost all of the departments have grown and become more effective. I am simply running with the team and seeing how the radio network can get even better. Amongst my especially favourite projects is the multimedia studio. It is almost ready to peak; material is in place, the team has learned the equipment, and now it is time to produce content. So I guess that is what I’m doing back in Mali!
Love 2 u all,
Elnasser
